What We Do

The Mission of the Boone County Conservation District is: To Preserve and manage natural areas and open spaces for ecological, educational and recreational benefits of present and future generations.

The Boone County Conservation District was the first conservation district established in Illinois. The District manages over 4,000 acres of prairies, woodlands and wetlands.  These sites are home to a wide array of diverse flora and fauna.  Many conservation sites are open to minimum-impact recreational opportunities such as hiking, fishing, picnicking, nature watching and cross country skiing.  Shelters and pavilions located at the various sites are available for reservations for parties and public gatherings.  Beaver Bluffs Conservation area includes an 8-acre dog park.
